It is not often you get to test the quality of what you are selling, especially when your business is Venues, but my own wedding held at One Mayfair allowed me to do just this!

At One Events, we have always strived to offer clients beautiful canvasses where they can design their dream wedding via our incredible suppliers who we recommend and offer as much hand holding as they want. Although I have been involved with events for over 15 years, this was a first for me, so I was in the same position as our clients…although perhaps with a few more contacts! .

My fiancé was originally thinking she wanted a very ‘wintery and earthy’ wedding, “perhaps in a barn” she stated. As invited numbers grew, I suggested using One Mayfair – not only because I had seen hundreds of incredible weddings and events come to life at this stunning venue, but sentimentally because it is closing down at the end of the 2015. She agreed and we started, like all other clients, standing around an atmospheric building coming up with lots of ideas of how we were going to fill it.
Once we knew we were having both our ceremony and dinner under one roof, we discussed how we may be able to stop guests seeing the ‘turnaround’. We looked at the option of having trees to create some type of canopy. We contacted a hire company, went to a tree nursery and even discussed with a florist how to recreate this concept but none of the suggestions seemed to work. Then, at our first production meeting with RM Productions, Rob who runs the company suggested he could source them. We worked together on designing these and the six gigantic five metre high trees we created became the awesome backdrop to our ‘earthy’ wedding setting.

Food and drink were next on the agenda and I turned to our in-house caterers One Dining. After an initial conversation, we quickly chose our options for our tasting and enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the incredible Tasting Room at One Horse Guards with both sets of parents. The whole tasting went smoothly (as did the choosing of wine!) and via a few negotiations we all agreed on a final menu which included; canapés of Pulled Suffolk Lamb “Shepard’s Pie”, mini Beef Wellington and Seared Sesame crusted Tuna Loin. The starter was Cornish Sea Trout Tartare followed by mains of Maize Farm Longhorn fillet of Beef or Pumpkin ravioli for the vegetarians. This was all wrapped up with a trio of desserts consisting of Warm Spiced Date Pudding, chilled Toffee and Banana Crumble and Caramel Ice Cream.
Fortunately or unfortunately, floristry and I just don’t mix but I introduced my future mother in law to the team at Veevers Carter and they were a match made in heaven! The team there listened to and understood everything my fiancé’s mother mentioned and the results on the night proved it. Every guest seemed to be blown away by the detail.
By choosing a venue like One Mayfair, my wife’s wishes of wanting to be very involved with the planning were realised. Her and her family were able to add all the small touches that really made it a very personal but ‘dream’ like wedding, as she had always imagined.
Planning a wedding, for the majority of people, will only happen once and if I can give one bit of advice from both the groom and someone that works in events, it would be to let the professionals do what they do best….ultimately they will be right and it will save you a lot of wasted time and it will look amazing!
